Acupuncture during pregnancy

Everyone is different, so individual health history needs to be considered when putting together a treatment plan for pregnancy. However, here is a layout of what is most common:

First Trimester: Weekly acupuncture treatments until week 12 of your pregnancy. Acupuncture can help prevent miscarriage, manage nausea and vomiting, increase energy, prevent constipation and bloating, and reduce anxiety and help with sleep.

Second Trimester: Every 2-4 weeks, depending on individual needs. Acupuncture can help maintain health and prevent common pregnancy symptoms such as back pain, hip pain, cramps, stress, pelvic pain, sciatica, indigestion, and insomnia. We also work on prevention of gestational diabetes, pre-eclampsia and IUGR concerns.

Third Trimester: If your baby is in the breech presentation, weekly treatments starting at 32 weeks is ideal. I will teach you special techniques, which encourage your baby to turn naturally. We will use a combination of acupuncture and moxibustion, both in the clinic and send you home with homework. Once baby turns, we use acupuncture to encourage baby to stay head down in the ideal birthing position.
Weekly
preparation for birth treatments from week 34-38. Acupuncture helps optimally position the baby, ripen the cervix, boost energy reserves, reduce anxiety, calm your mind, manage oedema (fluid retention), reduce high blood pressure and lessen duration of labour. You will be taught acupressure points to do at home to encourage labour.
Natural induction treatments twice a week after 38 weeks, really get things moving and help to prevent medical intervention.

Fourth Trimester: Weekly treatments at 2-4 weeks postpartum to help increase milk production, solve lactation problems, prevent baby blues/post natal depression, restore energy, support the healing process from tearing or a caesarian birth. Then monthly tune ups are ideal.

Total cost for pregnancy acupuncture at Healing Haven Acupuncture ranges from $2,755-$4,000

    So, what is food therapy?

In Chinese medicine, food has been used for thousands of years as a way to heal the body. All foods have different properties, such as warming, cooling, bitter, pungent, sour, spicy, etc. You can use these properties to your advantage based on your own individual constitution and the time of year! For example, everyone should incorporate these foods into their diets this summer because they help cool the body:
    • Watermelon
    • Cucumber
