We are just ending the Spleen/Stomach time of year! I’ve started to do a tiny cleanse to balance out my digestive system and make sure I’m coming into fall with strong immunity! The gut is so so so important for a properly functioning immune system. I’ve also noticed little things like feeling sluggish, bloated, and having a low appetite. These are little messages, along with other hints like nausea, constipation/diarrhea, heartburn, etc. from your belly telling you something is off!
Here are a few easy things I’ve been doing to optimize my digestive system: 〰️taking probiotics 〰️taking magnesium (400mg daily) 〰️drinking 1 tbsp of apple cider vinegar (you want to find one that says “with the mother” on the label!) diluted in a glass of water (drink this with a straw... this can be hard on the enamel of your teeth. Or rinse your mouth well after!) 〰️using Chinese herbs to stay balanced 〰️& belly acupuncture! Comment below if you have questions about your own gut health!

{a condition in which bones become weak and brittle} The leading cause of osteoporosis is a lack of hormones-- specifically estrogen in women and androgen in men. This is a very common ailment in women over 60 years old as women lose estrogen during menopause, which affects the bone density. At the First Affiliated Hospital of Chengdu Medical College researchers conducted a controlled clinical trial that concluded that "acupuncture reduces pain levels and promotes increased bone density in patients with osteoporosis." A common treatment for osteoporosis in the western world is calcium supplementation. In this study, they compared the two treatments and found that "both approaches to patient care produced positive patient outcomes; however, acupuncture outperformed calcium supplementation." 90.1% of the group that received acupuncture had effective treatment, while 80.22% of the group that received calcium supplementation had effective treatment. The study concluded that "acupuncture is helpful in restoration of bone density in patients with osteoporosis. Calcium supplementation also produced significant positive patient outcomes." I love when western and eastern medicine can work together. An international team of experts stated that acupuncture provides real relief from common forms of pain. The article reviews the results of 29 studies involving nearly 18,000 participants. "Some had acupuncture, some had “sham” acupuncture, and some didn’t have acupuncture at all. Overall, acupuncture relieved pain by about 50%." Dr. Lucy Chen, a board-certified anesthesiologist, specialist in pain medicine, and practicing acupuncturist at Harvard-affiliated Massachusetts General Hospital states that she "think(s) the benefit of acupuncture is clear, and the complications and potential adverse effects of acupuncture are low compared with medication." Chronic pain in the muscles and joints can definitely affect quality of life. If you or someone you know is affected by this, acupuncture is worth a try! About Spring & Acupressure
Stimulate these three acupuncture points for 2-5 minutes each day in order to stay stress free this spring! These points shown in the picture above are called Yintang, Liver 3, and Large Intestine 4. These are good points to stimulate this spring in order to reduce stress and keep energy free flowing in the body.
Spring is the time of year associated with the Liver organ and the wood element. Just as plants are starting to sprout out of the ground again, we are growing and changing as well! Our bodies need a little bit extra self-care this time of year while we transition out of winter to keep our energy from getting stuck during this changing season. Liver 3 and Large Intestine 4 are known as the "four gates" in Traditional Chinese Medicine. These points, when stimulated together, create powerful movement in the body to make sure our energy isn't stagnating anywhere. When our liver qi stagnates, we feel symptoms like menstrual cramping, body aches and pains, stress, irritability, migraines, sleep disturbance, and more! Be careful with these points if you are pregnant, as energy should not be greatly moved during this time in your life. Yintang is considered an "extra point" in the acupuncture world. It is located on the third eye and can be a powerful sedating point when we are feeling a little wound up and stressed out! Try massaging this point next time you feel anxious, overwhelmed, or stressed and notice how calming it is. This point is also a popular one to use for headaches! So, what is food therapy? In Chinese medicine, food has been used for thousands of years as a way to heal the body. All foods have different properties, such as warming, cooling, bitter, pungent, sour, spicy, etc. You can use these properties to your advantage based on your own individual constitution and the time of year! For example, everyone should incorporate these foods into their diets this summer because they help cool the body:
